Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

This page attempts to answer all the more common support questions we receive in relation to our NE1.net free URL redirection service.

What is my password how can I find it?

On our retreive password page you may ask to get your password sent to the email adress that is related to your account.

How to I convert my site to/from WAP site status?

Email us! Please be advised that in order for your account to become a WAP account (required to get the url working properly with cell phones) you will need to put a link on your site to http://wap.ne1.net/ before emailing us!

How do I delete my account?

On the manage page you can log in and afterwards delete your account.

Why is my short URL account "On Watchlist/Investigation list"?

We have an 'internal' watchlist for accounts that are in a grey area. Generally if these do not improve within a short amount of time from being put there (LIKELY we will email you if we put your account on the watchlist) we will delete them. Things that may put your account on the watchlist is if 1) Your homepage/target URL is invalid/does not work, 2) For some reason we suspect the site of not being what it appears to be or 3) We can't decide whether or not to approve it!

Why does it show multiple warning/ad frames on my site after clicking on links?

This can happen if you are using path forwarding for your link. Ie. if within your site you simply link to another page with http://you.ne1.net/page2.html, thus the new page opens with warning/frame and whatnot inside the current frame. The way to prevent this is to link with target="_top". Example: <a href="http://you.ne1.net/somepage.html" target="_top">link text</a>

What is pathforwarding?

Pathforwarding is a smart feature that allows your short NE1.net url to be used as if it was a real address. When you use your subdomain, ie. http://john.ne1.net/somepathhere, the path/filename following the subdomain will now be appended to your real address before redirection takes place. For this to work properly you need to make sure your real address ends with a directory and NOT a filename/page; ie. http://users.myip.com/~john/ correctly ends with a directory (the / is not required, our script is smart enough to add it), while http://users.myip.com/~john/mypage.html incorrectly ends with a filename (normal forwarding will still work in the last case, pathforwarding will NOT work).

What are the future plans for NE1.net??

We plan on introduction real DNS based domains. Ie. you.ne1.net would work exactly like a real domain name allowing you to setup individual DNS records for the domain.

Email forwarding will allow you to setup email forwarding addresses on your domain, ie. forward youchoose@you.ne1.net to your signup email address.

A few users has requested support for favicons and so we will implement support for that as well; allowing you to specify the location of your favicon. (This will require an account with cloaked redirection)
